You may recall that my last article questioned why there has been so little discussion regarding the scarcity of swine flu (H1N1) vaccine given that the Administration has known about this for months and predicted ample supplies would be available.
Some readers criticized me for even raising the specter of possible Administration missteps that could turn this season’s flu outbreak into President Obama’s personal “Katrina.” That was not my goal. It was merely to suggest that this aspect of the issue had been underreported.
In an article yesterday in The Washington Post, Michael D. Shear and Rob Stein mentioned that only 16 million H1N1 vaccine doses had been delivered versus 40 million promised. This reference appeared in the final paragraph of their article with neither further acknowledgement of this dramatic gap nor explanation of the causes.
Yesterday morning I e-mailed these authors and shared briefly the points raised in my article. In today’s paper, on the front page, Shear and Stein penned an article addressing some of the questions I raised. I doubt that either my article or e-mail gave rise to their article, but I am pleased that more information is being shared about a topic over which many people remain worried and concerned.
